BRANT BRIDGE UPDATES

Letter to the Mayor Regarding the Re-Opening of Brant Bridge

Response from the Delray Beach Mayor’s Office

FDOT Brant Bridge Project Update

For over a year now, I’ve been pushing for answers about the stalled reconstruction of the Brant Bridge — the one connecting Boca Raton to Delray Beach. As a resident of Hidden Valley, I’ve watched this project sit idle while our neighborhood deals with constant detours, traffic congestion, and silence from officials. What you see above is my letter to the city and the response I received.

I’m not just a concerned neighbor; I’m someone who has worked as a steel worker in the past. When I looked at that bridge, I noticed a serious issue: reinforced steel showing through the concrete surface. Anyone in the trade knows that means something went wrong during the pour. In this case, it looked like the rebar wasn’t properly tied or elevated, meaning the concrete never fully covered the steel. I counted 10 re-bars showing at the road’s surface — that’s not cosmetic. That’s a structural problem.

Hidden Valley Deserves Better

We’ve been left in the dark for too long. My calls to FDOT, Delray, Boca Raton, and the builder went unanswered. Meanwhile, residents in our community have to detour to US1 and Linton just to get west — burning gas and losing time. It’s even worse considering the Clint Moore bridge was already closed. We’ve been boxed in.

What FDOT Had to Say

In the letter above, Public Works Director Missie Barletto confirms that the final concrete pour was flawed and will require a major correction. FDOT says the delays are due to needing approvals from high-level district engineers. They now claim the bridge may reopen in late fall — but only time will tell.
